Dibër County

The Qark Dibra (Albanian Qarku i Dibrës ) is one of twelve Qarks in Albania. It is located in Eastern Albania and has an area of 2,586 km ². The capital is Peshkopia, where the Council and the Prefect are based.

Geography

The Qark Dibra consists of three circles Bulqiza, Dibra and Mat In the east it borders on Macedonia. In the south of Qark Dibra has a common border with the Qark Elbasan. Clockwise follow in the southwest of the Tirana and Durres Qarks, in the northwest of Qark Lezha and Kukes in northern Qark.

The region includes part of the historic region of Dibra, the Dibra e Vogël, as well as the Mat region The whole area is mountainous. Several mountain ranges running in north-south direction: To the east on the border with Macedonia, the Korab massif with the Maja e Korabit, with 2,764 meters above sea level the highest mountain in Albania. Population

The Qark claims it has 189 069 inhabitants ( 2011). The religion with the most followers is Sunni Islam. There is also a large minority of Bektashi. Macedonians live, most of which are orthodox on the eastern border.

Politics and Administration

The Qark Council ( Alb. Këshilli i Qarkut ) based in Peshkopia has 53 members, the majority of the Democratic Party ( PD) members, who also represents the Council Chairpersons with Naim Gazidede.
