Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 35 to 44 millimeters. The colored forewings occurring in Turkey nominate Dichagyris Flavina Flavina varies in different, usually bright yellow. For the South-East European subspecies Dichagyris Flavina pretiosa a reddish brown Saumfeld with equally colored fringes is characteristic. Kidney, ring and pin flaws are usually indistinct or absent, as are also the outer transverse line. The visually marked hind wings have a similar yellow color as the front wings.

Similar Species

Also equipped with a yellow color are the types Dichagyris serraticornis and Dichagyris lutescens. Both differ from Flavina by a darker tint and very prominent blemish.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species occurs in Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Southern Russia, Armenia, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, and Iran and Iraq. In the mountains, it rises to around 2000 meters altitude. Preferred habitat is open, steppe-like areas and areas with sparse vegetation.

Way of life

The nocturnal moths fly from June to July in one generation. They may be attracted by artificial light sources as well as the bait. Details of the first crawler stages are largely unknown.

  • Dichagyris Flavina Flavina ( Herrich -Schäffer, 1852), in the largest part of the range
