Dichlorophen is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of phenol derivatives (more specifically, diphenylmethane derivative ) and organochlorine.

History

Dichlorophen has been known since 1946 as a fungicide in cotton mills.

Use

Dichlorophen is used as a biocide, algaecide and bactericide with a wide activity spectrum, 5-10 ppm active Dichlorophens for complete control of microbial growth sufficient. Typical applications are, for example, in formulations for cooling water systems, slime control agents in the paper manufacture, preservatives in paints, adhesives, polymers, and latex products, textiles, and of aqueous products. It is used as a drug in anthelmintic and in the form of powders, ointments or sprays as an antifungal agent against fungal diseases and in cosmetics as a preservative. For animals no preparations on the basis of Dichlorophen are longer permitted in Germany, the application supplied in food animals is not allowed.
