Dichlorprop is a chemical compound that is used as a herbicide and plant growth regulator. It contains a chiral center, therefore, there are two isomers ( R)-form and the ( S) form. Dichlorprop is a 1:1 mixture (racemate ) of the ( R) form and the ( S) form. Dichlorprop -P - the pure ( R) -enantiomer of Diclorprop - has been approved in Germany and Austria as a post-emergence herbicide against broad-leaved weeds in cereal crops. In pesticides Directory Switzerland ( accessed on 1 August 2013) the substance is no longer listed.

Safety

Dichlorprop is classified as harmful and acts in a toxic concentration mainly on the central and peripheral nervous system, and long-term effects of storage in the fat and brain are not excluded. The racemic dichlorprop has a significantly higher toxicity ( oral LD50 for rats 344 mg / kg body weight) than the pure ( R)-form ( 825 mg / kg).
