Dick Bruna

Dick Bruna ( born August 23, 1927 in Utrecht as Hendrik Magdalenus Bruna) is a Dutch author, illustrator and graphic designer.

His creations have impressed itself upon many children because they are marketed worldwide on a variety of objects. His most famous character is Miffy ( in German and English translation Miffy ). It is a small rabbit, which was drawn with a few lines and colors. Dick Bruna wrote and recorded their stories.

He also illustrated book covers for the publishing company AW Bruna & Zoon family, for example, of Maigret. They are usually dominated by the single color silhouette of the whistle of the Commissioner. He also designed numerous posters for the publisher and for other companies, for example, 1974 for Pampers.

Biography

Dick Bruna was born the son of a man who was to become the largest publisher in the Netherlands. The publisher's success is possibly due to the fact that he had a stand at almost all stations who drove his holiday novels.

Father saw Bruna Dick Bruna in the successor in business. But though he often spoke to him on Dick Bruna had no talent for the financial side of the management. In his place, his brother became the successor in business and Dick Bruna had the opportunity to make himself otherwise useful in business.

Over the years, he illustrated probably thousands of books of the publishing house, among other things, by Simon Templar ( The Saint ), James Bond, and Shakespeare.

Influences

An early age Dick Bruna started drawing. He illustrated the covers of school newspapers in the style of Walt Disney. The biggest influence on his work was perhaps Henri Matisse. In the style of this French painter, he made the collages for his first children's book.
