Dick Durrance

Richard " Dick" Durrance ( born October 14, 1914 in Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA, † June 13, 2004 in Carbondale, Colorado, United States) was a 17 - times winner of the American Skiing and one of the first American skiers, the compete successfully with European skiers.

Dick Durrance moved in 1928 with his family to Garmisch. In Germany Durrance won the 1932 German Junior Alpine Ski Championships. He attended the 1934 Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and won in Sestriere (Italy ) as the first American to a major European skiing. Durrance won the 1937 U.S. men's downhill, slalom and Alpine- related events and was admitted to the U.S. Olympic team in 1936. He was eighth in the slalom and downhill skiing in the eleventh.
