Dicyanoethin ( Dicyanacetylen, Butindinitril ) is a chemical compound composed of only carbon and nitrogen. As the nitrile of acetylenedicarboxylic acid, the compound can be considered as an organic substance.

Occurrence

Natural deposits of Dicyanoethin were detected on Saturn's moon Titan.

Representation and extraction

An early method of preparation starts from the acetylenedicarboxylate, which is first converted with ammonia water in the acid amide. Dehydration using phosphorus pentoxide yields the target compound.

Properties

Physical Properties

Dicyanoethin is a clear, colorless liquid which solidifies due to the melting point of 20.5 ° C below room temperature to give a colorless solid. The atmospheric pressure boiling point is 76.5 ° C. The Sublimationsdruckfunktion arises after August correspondingly (P in Torr, T in K) with A = 2312 and B = 10.0115 in the temperature range from -10 ° C to 20 ° C. The vapor pressure function is given by (P in Pa, T in K) with A = 51707, B = 1093.4 and C = 6.4308 in the temperature range from 22 ° C to 76 ° C. From the sublimation and vapor pressure functions a molar sublimation enthalpy of 44.28 kJ · mol -1, a molar enthalpy of vaporization of 28.78 kJ · mol -1 and a molar enthalpy of fusion 15.49 kJ · mol -1 can be derived.

Chemical Properties

Dicyanoethin is very reactive. As one of the strongest known dienophiles it is capable of Diels -Alder reactions with extremely inert substances such as durene to take ( 1,2,4,5 -tetramethyl benzene ). Its combustion with oxygen occur at temperatures at a pressure of 1 atm to 5260 K, at 40 atm to 5750 K. The oxidation of Dicyanoethin with ozone at 40 atm reaches temperatures of 6100 K and therefore brings the hottest time ( 2012) based on a chemical reaction known flame out.

Use

Dicyanoethin used in organic synthesis, and as a fuel additive. When handling its toxic and lachrymatory effect, and its explosive properties must be considered.
