Diego López Rodríguez

Diego López Rodríguez ( born November 3, 1981 in Paradela, Lugo Province ) is a Spanish football player in the service of Real Madrid. The 1.96 meter tall goalkeeper is known for his good reflexes and his physical strength.

Career

From 1994 to 2000 he played for CD Lugo before he was discovered by scouts and the 3rd team of Real Madrid (Real Madrid C ) changed. In the next season he was loaned to Alcorcón and played upon his return to the 2nd team from Madrid ( Real Madrid B). After outstanding performance, he was promoted to the professionals 2005. After two years in the first team squad, with whom he was in the league and Champions League in the shadow of Iker Casillas but the Spanish Cup always brought good performance, Diego López finally moved in summer 2007 to Villarreal.

In Villarreal López quickly established himself as first-choice goalkeeper and played in the next five years, 171 games in the Primera División. He qualified with his club several times for the Europa League and Champions League. After the surprising relegation of the club in the season 2011/12, López moved for 3.5 million euros to FC Sevilla and signed with the Andalusians a five year contract.

On January 25, 2013 López returned to Real Madrid. With the commitment the Royal reacted to the failure of their tribe goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who had recently broken a metacarpal bone in a cup match. López signed with the Spanish capital club a four-year contract. The transfer fee was just under four million euros.

National

For the Galician football team he played against Uruguay and Ecuador in 2006 against 2005. On 20 March 2009, he was first appointed to the squad of the Spanish national team and on 12 August of the same year Diego López finally celebrated during a friendly match against Macedonia his debut.
