Diena

Diena ( German: The day ) is one of the largest circulation newspapers in Latvia. The journal has been published since 23 November 1990.

The editor in chief from 1992 to 2008 was Sarmite Ēlerte (now Minister of Culture in the Cabinet Dombrovskis II).

Until the Millennium there was next to the Latvian also a Russian edition.

2002, the newspaper had to pay a fine because they had the then Minister of Economy Laimonis Strujēvičs criticized in articles 1998. The fine was declared in 2007 by the European Court for unlawful.

The number of subscriptions decreased from 41471 in 2000 to 18277 in December 2009

The Latvian businessman Viesturs Koziol bought in 2010 51 % of the shares.
