Dienogest is a synthetic progestin, which is used as hormonal contraceptive for birth control and for treatment of problems, acne and endometriosis in women.

Dienogest has an anti-androgenic effect and thus belongs to the receptor blockers. Dienogest has the only 19 -Norge days no estrogenic, anti-estrogenic or androgenic partial action.

History

Dienogest was first synthesized in 1979 as STS 557 in Jena. It showed the 10-fold potency compared to levonorgestrel. In 1995, the micro pill Valette ® from Jena Pharm was put on the market.
