Dierenpark Emmen

The DierenPark Emmen, formerly Noorder Park, is one of the major zoological gardens in the Netherlands. It consists of two areas, the elderly and yet greater part lies in the center of Emmen in the middle. It is known the Noorder especially for his broken down by continents systems with large numbers of animals for his strong didactic concept.

History

The Noorder Park was founded in 1935 by Willem Oosting as a private company. The families Oosting and Rensen led the zoo in the following decades and built this especially since the 1970s, to a significant, scientifically oriented facility. In 1995 Henk Hiddingh took over the scientific management of the zoo. He turned the small family sized company that is now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Netherlands.

Terrain and future planning

In the 1990s, the authorities in Emmen looked exhausted the possibilities for expansion on the former, 13 -acre site in the city center. For this reason, an area outside the center on the Noordbargeres was bought. Since we initially planned to set up on the second site a subject area for the habitat of the sea, a walk-in facility there in 1998 for Humboldt penguins was built. This expansion and the increasing number of visitors made in 1999 to build a new, larger parking lot necessary. Furthermore, the so -called " Traverse " a pedestrian bridge that connects the two parts of the park with one another was built.

In the following years the Zoo Emmen bought about 40 acres added to the Noordbargeres and turned on first considerations to completely relocate the zoo to the expansion site. These considerations, however, were actually at a meeting between the leaders of the zoo and the city of Emmen in September 2006. Both decided to build a new park in cooperation in the Noordbargeres. Although a more accurate overall planning still pending, 2007, the first plans for the future were published in March. To be built in the middle of the new park a central place from which to explore from the various topics from visitors. These issues will be modeled in part on the existing of the old Noorder, however, be supplemented by new ones. Here, the design of the themes is more than ever geared to the different geographical particularities of the regions of the earth shown.

Presumably a new elephant enclosure at the Noordbargeres will occur already by 2010. The originally planned for the old site investments are therefore retained. However, necessary adjustments to the livestock on the old site can not be avoided anyway, as the relocation of the entire zoo will take place only gradually. A financial concept for the entire project as well as an urban planning concept for the former zoo area are not yet available.

Reference

The coordinate refers to the new site, which is also the central parking area is located. The main part of the zoo is still a little further east in the downtown area.
