Dietrich I of Metz

Dietrich I ( September 7984 ) was Bishop of Metz from 964 to 984 in the Roman Catholic Church he is venerated as Blessed.

After the death of Bishop Adalbert, a son of the Count Palatine Wigerich, Dietrich was a cousin of Otto I, administrator of the diocese and later at the instigation of the Archbishop Brun of Cologne successor Adalbert. According to the testimony of contemporary writers Dietrich was a light that poured their light over all branches of human knowledge ( studiorum omnium lux ). He was a friend and counselor Bruns and accompanied him on his journey to Compiegne. Brun died on the way in Reims in the arms of his friend. Since the death of Bruno Dietrich stood as one of the most influential adviser of Otto I, in close relation to the court and therefore was often extended period of Metz absent, so that he could devote his diocese not a particularly great care.
