Dietrich of Apolda

Dietrich von Apolda (* 1220 or 1230; † after 1302 ) was a Dominican monk and author of Holy biographies.

Dietrich came probably from the family of the lords of Apolda. He joined in 1247 in the Dominican monastery in Erfurt, where he remained until his death. He became known by two saints biographies written by him, namely, prepared on behalf of his Order of St. Dominic Vita and Vita of Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia. Especially the Elisabeth -Vita was received broad and coined far beyond the Middle Ages, the image of the popular saints.
