Dietrich von Bausznern

Dietrich von Bausznern ( * 19 March 1928 in Rastenburg ( East Prussia ), † 20 January 1980 Kirchzarten, district Breisgau in the Black Forest, Baden- Württemberg ) was a German composer, choirmaster, organist and music teacher.

Life

The grandson of the composer Waldemar von Baußnern studied at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg im Breisgau, the composer Harald Genzmer and was already while studying staffer at the school radio department of the Southwest Radio.

In Freiburg he was cantor of St. Ludwig's Church, lecturer at the local College of Education, later became a teacher at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and went in 1979 as professor of music theory and composition at the Musikhochschule in Frankfurt.

Works

Bausznern created more than 300 compositions of different genres, but mainly church music: sacred concertos, cantatas, motets, choral music, chamber music, as well as a youth and a radio opera.

At home in Kirchzarten he was also a cantor and organist, director of "Youth Training Centre of Music " and organizer of the " church in Hinterzarten concerts ".

Bausznern suggested that 1981 saw establishment of the " Baußnern Association for the promotion of musical creativity Waldemar von Baußnerns " from which the " Baußnern society" in Darmstadt has emerged.

Honors

For his achievements, especially as an innovator of Protestant church music, as a composer and organizer, he has received several prestigious awards, so the 1966 Reinhold Schneider Prize of the City of Freiburg ( Award ) and the Johann Wenzel Stamitz Prize 1973. Moreover, he was Member of the Supervisory Board of GEMA.
