Digital Picture Exchange

The Digital Picture Exchange (DPX ) is the usual file format for modern feature film production in the digital intermediate process.

The file format is designed to process large contrast ranges, which are typical of digital cinema cameras or film. Each color channel is up to 32 bits is stored (linear or logarithmically ). A common unit for film scanning for digital application, for example, provides data in 10bit logarithmic, which fully covers the contrast range of 16mm material. Professional systems for compositing or color editing work natively with the DPX data that can be used at the end of the production chain and the closing date of the contents on film.

Standardised it is in accordance with ANSI / SMPTE ( " SMPTE 268M - 2003 v 2.0" ), which goes back to the draft standard ANSI / SMPTE 268M - 1994 v 1.0.
