Digital-S

D9 Digital S originally called, is a professional digital video tape format by JVC which was introduced in 1995. It is a direct competitor of Digital Betacam. It is particularly common in Europe and Asia, although some use in the United States there, especially by the Fox News Channel.

Technology

D9 using the VHS - form factor, but the belt has a much higher quality. For the record, DV compression is used, with a bit rate of 50 Mbit / s, the video is recorded in 4:2:2 components with one format and has an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9. Audio is recorded at 16bit, 48 kHz modulation width and PCM in up to 4 separate channels.

Although D9 uses the same codec as MiniDV, the video bit rate of D9 is significantly higher than that of the " prosumer" format. Some of the D9 studio devices are able to play the recording faster and to undergo error correction. The output signal is usually on to an SDI interface. There is only one dockable recorder for use with mobile cameras this is the JVC BR- D40.
