Dilbarjin ( Delbarjin ) is the modern name of an ancient city in what is now Afghanistan. The remains of the city date from Achaemenid time to the era of the Indo- Sassanid kingdom (ca. 600 AD). Their heyday was the city under the Kushan. The old town was square with a circular citadel in the middle. She was surrounded by a wall (about 390 x 390 m), which was equipped with towers and dated to the Kushan period. During this time, the Citadel fortifications was in the middle of the city. However, this lost over time their military nature and have been converted into living quarters. Outside the wall there were residential buildings. In the north- east of the city there was a temple complex of the six phases could be distinguished. He may have been built already Greco- Bactrian period, but shows few Hellenistic style elements. The images of the Dioscuri, painted in a purely Hellenistic style, n from the second century AD serve as an example of the long afterlife of Hellenistic traditions in this area. The temple was perhaps first them, but then dedicated to Shiva. Another small temple was dedicated to Hercules / Vahram. Outside the walls, there was also a Buddhist shrine. Other finds are remains of sculptures and coins. There were inscriptions, almost all in Bactrian. However, they were often so badly damaged that they could not provide historical information. There were evidence of a local ceramic production.
