Dimmalætting

Dimmalætting [ dɪm ː ˌ a lat ɪɳg ː ] ( Faroese for " dawn " ), colloquially " Dimma " was the oldest and largest daily newspaper in the Faroe Islands, based in Tórshavn. With the edition of September 13, 2013 her show was set.

Name

The name Dimmalætting consists of dhimmi ( darkness ) and lætting, a nominalization of LAETTA (leave, make easy). Dimmið lættir means " it is day " (literally: " the darkness leaves after "). The newspaper name comes from VU Hammershaimb and is regarded as one of the early independent neologisms the Faroese language.

History

The first issue of " Dimma " appeared after a sample number from December 8, 1877 January 5, 1878.

From inception of the unionist Sambandsflokkurin 1906 Dimma was his party newspaper, but describes himself as politically independent since 1995. By 2005, however, the chief editor of the newspaper was automatically represented on the executive committee of the Sambandsflokkurin.

The Faroese name was initially small print before the Danish name for Amtstidene Færøerne (Official newspaper of the Faroe Islands ). The last Dimma had a circulation of 8,500 copies nationwide ( 1991, 13,300 ) and appeared five times a week.
