Dinodontosaurus

Dinodontosaurus is an extinct Dicynodontier from the Triassic. Fossils of the genus have been found in Argentina and Brazil. After Dinodontosaurus the " Dinodontosaurus Assemblage Zone " was named in Brazil's Santa Maria Formation.

Features

Dinodontosaurus reached about two and a half meters in length and several hundred kilograms of weight. It had like a walrus two downward-pointing tusks. The legs were muscular, the head and tail were in proportion to the body, relatively short.

System

Dinodontosaurus belonged to the Kannemeyeriidae, a subfamily of Dicynodontia ( Two - Hundezähner ) on. The genus was first described in 1943 by Alfred Romer. A total of four different species have been described:

  • Dinodontosaurus brevirostris
  • Dinodontosaurus oliveirai ( type species )
  • Dinodontosaurus platiceps
  • Dinodontosaurus platygnathus
