Dionýz Ilkovič

Dionýz Ilkovič ( born January 18, 1907 in Šarišský Štiavnik; † August 3, 1980 in Bratislava) was a Slovak physical chemist. His most famous contribution to science was the derivation of the eponymous Ilkovič equation, which makes it possible to calculate from the flowing currents in polarography concentrations.

Life

1925-1930 studied Ilkovič Chemistry and Physics at Charles University in Prague. From 1930 he worked in the laboratory of Jaroslav Heyrovský, the inventor of polarography. In 1934 he published - based on theoretical considerations - the equation named after him; In 1938 he published the derivation. 1934 Ilkovič was at the Charles University in Prague. appointed professor in 1940, he moved to Bratislava. Ilkovič was at the Comenius University in Bratislava until 1976 professor. He has rendered outstanding services to the training of physicists, he was, for example, also responsible for the first modern Slovak physics textbook.
