Dioscoreales

Common Schmerwurz ( Dioscorea communis)

The Yamswurzelartigen ( Dioscoreales ) are an order of monocots. Relatively few species are used by humans.

Description

Yamswurzelartige are mostly perennial, herbaceous plants. Often, rhizomes or tubers are rarely formed as outlasting. The vascular bundles are arranged in one or more circles, this is rare in monocots. Often the leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade, this being at the monocots ( Liliopsida ) is rarely the case. Often the Blattnervatur is like a net.

On the inflorescences or flowers glandular hairs are present. The flowers are hermaphrodite or unisexual threefold ( Dioscorea ). There are two circles, each with three identically designed bloom cladding available ( perianth ). The bloom are still well preserved on the fruits. The most short style ends in three well-trained stigma lobes. The embryo is usually short. The flowers formula is:

System

Within the order of the Dioscoreales Nartheciaceae are at the base, the Burmanniaceae and Dioscoreaceae each sister groups and form a common clade.
