Diphros

A Diphros was a seat in Ancient Greece.

The Diphros is a stool with four turned legs mostly. There is a seating both the gods and heroes, as well as ordinary people. He is known for many representations of the ancient art. First representations can be found on images from the geometric vase painting. Known representations can also be found on the west frieze of the Siphnierschatzhaus in Delphi and the East frieze of the Parthenon. He often finds himself in workshop scenes. The Diphros can be made ​​of both plain wood, as well as from expensive ebony. From the treasure lists of the Parthenon also Diphroi with silver feet are known. A special form of Diphros is a folding chair, whose legs end in animal claws. A more upscale form of the ancient chair is the Klismos.
