Diplommatinidae

Opisthostoma pulchellum with irregular housing

The Diplommatinidae are an extremely diverse family in the country live snails from the order of Architaenioglossa ( Caenogastropoda ). These are all small to very small species with only a few millimeters in size, which is expected for non-systematic group of " Mikromollusken ".

Features

The right and sinistral, conical, ovoid - conical, partly rolled up and unfurled irregular housing often have secondary deposits on the body. Often the final turn is constricted slightly. The housing usually have only a few turns. The mouth is usually roundish with or without folds or lamellae. The lid (operculum ) is more or less calcified strong. The animals are dioecious.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The types and genres of Diplommatidae are native to the tropics of Southeast Asia, Melanesia, Micronesia, Mexico, Central America and the Antilles. They come from sea level prior to 2600 meters above sea level. The oldest representative of the family come from the Upper Cretaceous of Hungary, but the genus Ajkaia is hard to distinguish from cases of other genera of the Diplommatinidae.

System

The taxon Diplommatinidae included until recently, the two subfamilies diploma Mati Ninae and Cochlostomatinae. According to the molecular genetic studies of Webster et al. (2012 ), however, the Cochlostomatinae are not closely related to the degree Mati Ninae but form the sister group of the Megalomastomatidae, another family of the superfamily Cyclophoroidea.Webster et al. (2012 ) therefore have the Cochlostomatinae to the rank of a family, ie Cochlostomatidae raised. The family includes the following genera:
