Direcção Nacional de Estatística

The Directorate- Nacional de Estatística DNE (English National Statistical Directory, NSD, German, National Directorate of Statistics ') is the authority for Statistics of East Timor ( Timor- Leste ). It has its headquarters in the capital Dili.

The organization

The DNE is dependent on the General Directorate for Analysis and Research of the East Timorese Ministry of Finance. The DNE is responsible for the coordination of the National Statistical System ( NSS) and demographics for the collection, preparation, analysis and dissemination of official statistics, social, environmental and economic issues. Basis for working with statistics provided by the Act 17/2003 of 1 October 2003.

In August 2009, the DNE had 18 permanent employees and 48 temporary employees. The director of the DNE is Elias dos Santos Ferreira.

History

On 30 June 2000, the National Bureau of Statistics ( NSO ) was founded when East Timor was still under the administration of the United Nations (UNTAET ). The United Nations (UNDP ) development program funded the establishment. In the early days we dealt primarily with the consumer price index. At that time, 16 local and foreign forces for the NSO worked in the GPA - building. 2001 reduced the second transitional government, the NSO to eight employees. The Directorate moved to the Office of the Prime Minister in the Government Palace. Subordinate it was the Ministry of Wirtschaftsangelgenheiten. With the dismissal of East Timor to independence, the NSO came under the suzerainty of the Treasury and drew nigh to the Kobe Building. The first director of the NSO was Manuel Mendonça, who now has 16 employees and, with David Brackenfield, a foreign consultant disposal. The study was financed by the International Monetary Fund. On 5 September 2003, the authority in the Directorate- Nacional de Estatística ( DNE ) was renamed and moved to its present premises in a Caicoli. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA ) UNFPA had the renovation of the two warehouses financed, in which the Statistical Office was housed during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor.

2004 and 2010 led the DNE by national censuses.
