Directmedia Publishing

The Direct Publishing GmbH is a publishing house that publishes primarily humanities text collections electronically. From 1995 to 2008 he was based in Berlin and since 2008 in Braşov, Romania.

History

The publishing house was founded by the two directors Ralf Szymanski and Erwin Jurschitza and Michael Bartos, Joaquim Moreira Dos Santos and Constantine Krizhanovsky in Berlin in January 1995. The company's headquarters was located initially in the Yorckstraße 59

In 2001, the sister company The Yorck Project was - Society for image archiving mbH founded. Both companies came later in the Ernst- Gettke house in Möckernstrasse to 68. From the Yorck Project 2005 Zenodot publishing company whose name is on Zenodotos of Ephesus, the first librarian of the Library of Alexandria, was referring.

In October 2008, Direct Media was defeated in a copyright lawsuit against Ulrich Knoop and the University of Freiburg before the European Court of Justice and in August 2009 on the merits before the Federal Court.

After the sale of the publishing house by the two shareholders Erwin Jurschitza and Ralf Szymanski end of 2008, the office of the Company was transferred to Brasov (Romania ), the management was transferred to Claudia Maria Buflea. Sales in Germany is done since then by the shipping -AS GmbH in Berlin.

Products

In cooperation with the Reclam Verlag Stuttgart Direct Media Publishing developed the series Reclam classics on CD- ROM, were issued in the individual works of the literary canon German language in the electronic full-text with the appropriate listening text.

The focus of the publishing program lies with the series " Digital Library " in the field of humanities text collections and encyclopedias. Since 1997, around 200 CD -ROMs and DVD-ROMs, all run with the software " Digibib " on Windows and Mac OS X appeared. A beta version of the reader is since March 2005 for Linux GPL - licensed disposal.

The Zenodot publishing company founded in 2007, the online library Zeno.org, which now no longer belongs to the publisher.

Software: Reader

This title has its own software ( " Reader" ) for PC and a circumferentially significantly reduced developed for Mac (OS X 10.3.9 ). As the website of the company was dissolved and also there is no e- mail address more, the reader can be obtained only via mail directly from the company.
