Dirk Andries Flentrop

Dirk Andries Flentrop ( born May 1, 1910 in Zaandam, † 30 November 2003 in Santpoort- Zuid ) was a Dutch organ builder.

Life

Flentrop was the son of Hendrik Wicher Flentrop (1866-1950), who in 1903 founded the organ builder Flentrop Orgelbouw in Zaandam. This world famous mode is active in Europe, the United States and in South America and has also built organs in Taiwan and Japan. In recognition of his services Flentrop received a 1968 Honorary Doctorate in Musicology of the American Oberlin College ( Ohio) for his pioneering work in the classic organ building and later another of Duke University in North Carolina. Of note is the 1975 to 1978 carried out the restoration of the organs of 1693 and 1735 of the Cathedral of Mexico City. In 1982, he was honored in the United States with a book about his work thereat. Flentrop died at his residence Santpoort- Zuid at the age of 93 years.

Successor Flentrops 1976 JA Steketee ( b. 1936 ), and 1998 Cees van PW Oostenbrugge ( 1947-2008 ) took over management of the company. After his death, Frits Elshout was ( b. 1952 ) and the new director Erik angle ( * 1971 ) and his deputy. The list of works of the company includes over 400 new organs, including 17 organs in Germany and over 100 in the United States.
