Dirk Hillbrecht

Dirk Hill Brecht ( born June 10, 1972 in Hannover) is the former Chairman of the Pirate Party Germany.

He began in 1991 with the study of mathematics at the University of Hannover, where he graduated with a diploma in 1999. Since then he has worked in various IT companies and many times also independently. On 3 November 2006 he joined the Pirate Party of Germany, in which he was a founding member of the Lower Saxony State Association among others. From 8 December 2007 to August 2, 2008 he was treasurer of the Lower Saxony State Association. In May 2008 he was elected at the federal party chairman of the Pirate Party Germany, sparking Jens Seipenbusch from. He lives in his hometown of Hanover. He is one of the initiators of patentfrei.de which fights against software patents. In March 2009 he was involved in the founding of BIKT (German Association for Information and Communication Technology), where he is the Deputy Chairman since then.

On the national party in 2009 on July 4, 2009, he did not campaign for the party presidency, because he wanted to concentrate on his candidacy for the 2009 federal election. He was succeeded by Jens Seipenbusch.

September 11, 2011 Hill Brecht was elected in the municipal elections in Lower Saxony in 2011 for the Pirates in the City Council of Hanover.
