Diviciacus (Aedui)

Diviciacus (Latin form, celtic: Diviciacos ), also Divitiacus was a haeduischer tribal leaders and Druid in the 1st century BC

Diviciacus was disposed towards the Romans friendly and visited 61 BC Rome, where he asked for help against the Sequani in the Senate, who had defeated together with the Germanic Ariovistus, the Aedui. The petition was unsuccessful, the Senate instructed only to the respective governor of the province of Gallia Narbonensis to support the Aedui and other allies if possible - practical implications this had not initially. In Rome he met Cicero, who was informed of Diviciacus about the Celtic art of divination.

58 BC requested Diviciacus as Vergobret ( tribal leader ) the help of the new Gallic proconsul Caesar first against the Helvetii who had decided oppressed by the Germans under Ariovistus, to leave their homes and resettle their people. Later he asked Caesar for help against Ariovistus himself and thus contributed to the outbreak of the Gallic War. He came into conflict with his Roman enemy Dumnorix brother, who made it the rule in dispute and was planning a coup. Dumnorix was overthrown, but pardoned at the request of Diviciacus. This supported Caesar also in the following year in the fight against Belger, where he obtained the pardon of Bellovaci. After this incident will be reported no longer Diviciacus, which suggests that he died shortly afterwards.
