Origin
On the origin of the name, there are different theories:
- In a part of Louisiana's French was spoken, and Citizens ' Bank of Louisiana issued ten-dollar notes, which were particularly sought after due to their impairment. On the back of the French number word " dix " (ten) was printed .. The notes were known as Dixie.
- The boundary line between Pennsylvania and Maryland was surveyed by the surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon and is therefore called the Mason-Dixon line. It applies in general terms as the dividing line between the American States, to the south which allowed slavery and to the north of which it was forbidden.
