Diyarbekir Vilayet

The eyalet Kurdistan ( osm. eyalet -i Kurdistan ) was a short-lived Ottoman eyalet, was established on 13 December 1847 and the suppression of the revolt of Bedirxan Beg. The foundation was published on 14 December 1847 in the Ottoman State newspaper Takvim -i Vekayi.

Population

The area of ​​Eyâlets was mainly populated by Kurdish Muslims. However, the region was also home to East Christians and Turkish-speaking Muslims.

History

Initially, the eyalet Kurdistan encompassed the areas Diyarbakir, the Sanjak Van, Muş and Hakkari and the Kazas (districts ) Cizre, Botan and Mardin. During the short existence of the Vilayet of the provincial capital moved often. Initially, it was Ahlat, later Van, Muş and Diyarbakir. 1856 eyalet was redefined and 1864 but then canceled. From the eyalet the two vilayets Diyarbakır and Van arisen.
