Province

El Djelfa (or Djelfa, Arabic الجلفة al - Dschilfa, DMG al - Ǧilfa ) is a town in north-central Algeria with about 235,000 (2005) inhabitants. It is located in the eponymous province of El Djelfa, whose capital it is, the middle of the Saharan Atlas. Therefore, it is 1138 meters above sea level and is within a radius of 100 kilometers, the only major city.

It is particularly known by a cattle market, which is an important transshipment point for the still encountered nomads and semi- nomads in the Sahara region.

History

Using numerous etched in stone drawings called petroglyphs that were found in the area, can be conclude that even 7000-5000 years BC Neolithic people who settled there.

1852, the town was used as a military outpost by the French.

During the Second World War, when this was a French internment camp.

In June, the mutton Festival. This is accompanied by dances of the Ouled Nail and equestrian events.
