Djibouti ( Djibouti French, Arabic جيبوتي, DMG Ǧībūtī ) is the capital of the African country of Djibouti. The port city is located at the entrance to the Gulf of Tadjoura, part of the Gulf of Aden, south of the Strait of Bab al Mandab -.

The city was founded in 1888 by the French. In 1892 it broke from Obock as the capital of French Somaliland. The original district Djibouti had an area of 630 km ². With the administrative reform of 7 July 2002, a new region, Arta, built from parts of the district Dikhil, but also the capital district gave territory to Arta from and shrank in area from 600 to 200 sq km, but closed the island of Musha and the entire archipelago with a.

Djibouti is the terminus of the railway line from Addis Ababa and free port for Ethiopia, which has no independent access to the sea.

By a bomb attack in Djibouti on 18 March 1987, 13 people were killed, including scientists from the research vessel Meteor.

Boroughs

The town consists of three communes, which further divided into six arrondissements. The arrondissements in turn consist of quarters.
