Djiboutian parliamentary election, 2013

The election to the National Assembly in Djibouti in 2013 took place in the northeast African country of Djibouti on 22 February 2013. The main opposition parties Djibouti were in an electoral coalition under the name Union pour le Salut National ( Union for National Salvation, USN) is included in the vote. The previous election to the National Assembly in Djibouti in 2008 had been boycotted by the opposition parties, so that all seats to the ruling coalition Union pour la Majorité Présidentielle (Union for the majority of the President, UMP) had fallen.

According to official figures, therefore ruling coalition since 2003, Union pour la Majorité Présidentielle won in 2013 almost 2/3 of the available seats of the National Assembly. The coalition is dominated by the UMP party Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progres, which ruled Djibouti since independence in 1977.

The opposition, however, reported that the elections in Djibouti City are faked and published their own counts by the number of seats the ruling party would be significantly lower and would increase their own accordingly. Also, according to these data, the ruling Union pour la Majorité Présidentielle would, however, won a majority of seats.

In the days after the election, according to the French radio station RFI least 40 opposition activists were arrested.
