Dmitri Smirnov (composer)

Dmitri Nikolaevich Smirnov (Russian: Дмитрий Николаевич Смирнов; born November 2, 1948 in Minsk ) is a Russian composer.

Life

Dmitry Smirnov was born the son of opera singers. The family first moved to Ulan -Ude, Buryat Republic ( Central Asia), then after Frunze, Kyrgyzstan, where Smirnov spent his childhood. In 1967 he began studying music at the Conservatory in Moscow. There he learned composition with Nikolai Sedelnikow, instrumentation with Edison Denisov and analysis at Juri Kholopov. In 1970 he made ​​the acquaintance of Philip Herschkowitzs, the übergesiedelten from Vienna to Moscow Webern students. 1972 ended Smirnov his studies and worked since 1973 as an editor in the publishing Sovetsky compositor.
