Dobrinka Tabakova

Dobrinka Tabakova ( Добринка Табакова ) (* 1980 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria) is a British- Bulgarian composer.

Biographical

Dobrinka Tabakova comes from a music-loving family of academics. In 1991 she moved with her family to London, where she studied at the Alleyn 's School and at the Royal Academy of Music Junior piano, conducting and composition. She participated in summer courses at the Centre Acanthes in France and at the conservatories in Prague and Milan, and received her diploma composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2007, she received a doctorate in composition at King's College London. Her composition teachers include, among other Iannis Xenakis, Alexander Goehr and Philippe Manoury.

Dobrinka Tabakova was composer -in-residence at the Oxford Chamber Music Festival, Leicester International Chamber Music Festival and the Utrecht International Chamber Music Festival. She was invited as guest composer at the Spectrum Concerts Berlin and 2010 Musicarama Festival in Hong Kong.

Awards

With 14 years Dobrinka Tabakova won the Jean -Frederic - Perrenond Prize at the 4th International Music Competition in Vienna and the 1999 GSMD Lutoslawski Composition Prize and in 2007 for the song cycle Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music, the Adam Prize of King's College London.
