Dolon (mythology)

Dolon (Greek Δόλων ) is a figure in Greek mythology, son of the Herald Eumedes. He was in Homer's Iliad, a scout on the side of Troy. Was in the final battle, in which Troy already doomed, he stole the night dressed in the camp of the Greeks, but was exposed, interrogated and killed by Odysseus and Diomedes. His betrayal brought the Thracian Rhesus death.

The 10th song of the Iliad, in which these events are portrayed about is, even Dolonie.

According to Hyginus Dolon is also the name of a son of Priam.

Some authors (among L. Gernet, R. Girard ) have at Dolon mythicized the figure of a human sacrifice ( pharmakos ) seen. For this is significant, according to Gernet the description Dolons as "ugly " (also in Euripides ' Trojan Women ) and " swift-footed " as well as the allegation that he wanted to rob the corpses.
