Domenico Passignano

Domenico Cresti ( called Il Passignano, also called Domenico Passignano known; * to the January 29, 1559 in Passignano (village of Barberino Val d'Elsa ), † May 17, 1638 in Florence) was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance and Mannerism.

Life

Born in the province of Florence, the son of Michele Cresti, he completed his training in Florence with Giovanni Battista Naldini and Girolamo Macchietti. When traveling to Rome and Venice, he learned the style of Jacopo Tintoretto know and was influenced by it. After Venice, he traveled as assistant to Federico Zuccari, who commissioned him with the execution of the frescoes of Vasari in Santa Maria del Fiore.

He quickly became known for his paintings, he led them out with little color. This is the reason that many of his works have been damaged by the weather. Cresti also painted portraits of famous contemporaries such as Galileo and Michelangelo.

He was father of Pietro Sorri.
