Dominic A. Antonelli

Dominic Anthony " Tony" Antonelli ( born August 23, 1967 in Detroit ) is an American astronaut.

He was born in Detroit and grew up in Indiana and North Carolina. He is married and has two children. He graduated from Douglas Byrd High School BS, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Washington.

Military career

Antonelli served as a Naval Aviator and Landing Signal Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and flew with F/A-18C in support of Operation Southern Watch.

Antonelli has spent over 3200 hours in 41 different types of aircraft and landed 273 times on an aircraft carrier. He graduated from the United States Air Force Test Pilot School.

NASA career

In July 2000, he was selected by NASA as an astronaut candidate. Antonelli served in various technical tasks until his assignment to a mission. On 19 October 2007, NASA announced that he will be the pilot of mission STS -119. In this space shuttle mission, the last solar cell element of the ISS was launched into space. The launch took place on March 15, 2009. The STS -119 mission was on 28 March 2009 with the landing at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to a successful end.

On his second space flight launched Antonelli on 14 May 2010 as a pilot of Space Shuttle Atlantis on mission STS - 132. The landing took place on 26 May 2010.

Private

Antonelli is married and has two children.
