Dominique-Georges-Frédéric Dufour de Pradt

Dominique Dufour de Pradt, actually Dominique Georges Frédéric de Riom de Prolhiac de Fourt de Pradt ( born April 23 1759 in Allanches, Canton Allanche, Auvergne, France, † March 18, 1837 at Castle Vedrine, Paris) was a French writer, diplomat and Archbishop.

Life

Pradt was sent in 1789 as Vicar General of the Archbishop of Rouen, Dominique de La Rochefoucauld, by the clergy of Normandy in the meeting of the Estates-General ( " États- Généreaux " ) and proved to be Ultraroyalist. After the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly, he went to Hamburg, then to Munster, where in two pamphlets he (L' antidote au congrès de Rastadt, 1798, and La Prusse et sa neutralité, 1800 ) fought the revolution.

Returned in 1800 to Paris, he knew, favored by his relatives Geraud -Christophe- Michel Duroc ( 1772-1813 ), the closest confidant of Napoleon, at the First Consul ingratiate so that he was appointed chaplain, and in 1804 Bishop of Poitiers. Pope Pius VII consecrated him bishop on 2 February 1805. In 1808 he accompanied the emperor to Bayonne and contributed significantly to the Spanish Bourbons to move by false pretenses to abdicate so that he has to pay Napoleon the title of baron and the Archdiocese of Mechelen awarded. In 1811 he was negotiating on behalf of the Emperor with the Pope Pius VII to Savona.

After the second restoration he gave his title to the Archdiocese of Mechelen for an annuity of 12,000 francs. As a member of the Board (1827-1828) he was on the side of the opposition. After the July Revolution, he was a supporter of the " Dynasty Orléans ". Almost forgot he died in 1837 at Castle Vedrine.
