Donagh MacDonagh

Donagh MacDonagh ( born November 12, 1912 in Dublin, † January 1, 1968 ) was an Irish writer and judge.

Life

The son of the poet Thomas MacDonagh was a young child when his father in 1916 as a participant was executed on Easter Rising. Tragically, his mother came a little later in a swimming accident. MacDonagh was educated at Belvedere College and University College Dublin. In 1935 he was appointed attorney to the judge and 1941.

In 1947 his first collection of poems, Hungry Grass; In 1969 A Warning to Conquerors. He also edited the Oxford Book of Irish Verse (1958), together with Lennox Robinson. A spectacle, Happy As Larry has been translated into various languages. He also wrote short stories. He was married twice - his first wife died - and had four children.
