Donald Jahraus

Donald "Don" Year in ( born July 13, 1892 in Salt Lake City, Utah; † April 3, 1963 in Los Angeles, California ) was a special effects artist, 1945 Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo the Oscar for Best Visual Effects obtained.

Life

In the first feature films, where he worked as Danger Lights, Flying Down to Rio and The Wizard of Oz, he was responsible for the thumbnails. In the test pilot in 1938, he first worked special effects wizard. In 1942, he was ultimately responsible for Stand by for Action for the special effects. He was nominated together with A. Arnold Gillespie and Michael Steinore for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects for this film.

The following year, he finally received the award for the film Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo together with A. Arnold Gillespie, Warren Newcombe and Douglas Shearer. His third nomination for the Academy Award he received in 1946 for the war film directed by John Ford, They Were Expendable. The last feature film, on which he collaborated, was in 1956 Gaby.
