Donald S. Harrington

Donald Szantho Harrington ( born July 11, 1914 in Newton, Massachusetts, † September 16, 2005 in Romania) was an American Unitarian minister and liberal politician.

Harrington was a member of the last Board of Trustees of the American Unitarian Association prior to its merger with the Universalists; after the merger, he was a member of the first Board of the Unitarian Universalist Association. He was also the pastor of the " Community Church of New York ", the largest Unitarian Church of the United States.

Politically operated Harrington himself as a follower of Norman Thomas first in the Socialist Party. Later, after he had moved to New York, he joined the Liberal Party of New York and rose to chairman at the state level on. He held this post for 20 years. In 1966 he ran on the side of Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. for the office of Lieutenant Governor of New York. They obtained 507 234 votes, representing a share of 8.4 percent and earned them fourth place; race won by Republican Nelson Rockefeller. In the same election Harrington was elected as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of the State of New York.
