Doris Schattschneider

Doris Schattschneider (* October 19, 1939 in Staten Iceland, New York City ) is an American mathematician who is concerned with geometry.

Schattschneider studied at the University of Rochester and received his PhD in 1966 from Yale University with Tsuneo Tamagawa and Ichiro Satake ( Restricted Roots of a Semi -Simple Algebraic Group). From 1968 she taught at Moravian College in Bethlehem (Pennsylvania), where she is Professor Emeritus since 2002.

Schattschneider is known for its work on tilings. She is also interested in the connections to the history of art, and published books on MC Escher. She worked on a project for computer visualization of the geometry of the National Science Foundation, which produced the software "The Geometer 's Sketchpad ", and held numerous lectures in the United States on applications of geometry in the classroom, in the arts and especially symmetry of polyhedra and tilings.

1981 to 1985 she was editor of Mathematics Magazine. She was Vice President of the Mathematical Association of America ( MAA ), the "Certificate of Meritorious Service" and the Distinguished Teaching Award (1993 ) she received. She is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
