Dorothea of Anhalt-Zerbst

Dorothea of Anhalt- Zerbst ( born September 25, 1607 Zerbst, † September 26, 1634 in Hitzacker ) of the dynasty of Ascanians was a princess of Anhalt- Zerbst and by marriage Duchess of Brunswick and Lüneburg and Duchess of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel.

Life

Dorothea was a daughter of Prince Rudolf of Anhalt- Zerbst (1576-1621) from his first marriage with Dorothea Hedwig (1587-1609), daughter of Duke Heinrich Julius of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel.

On October 26, 1623, she was in Zerbst the second wife of the Duke August the Younger of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel ( 1579-1666 ). August's first marriage was equal to that of his brother Julius Ernst, remained childless. With the birth of her sons Dorothea thus became the ancestress of the extinct 1884 "New House of Brunswick ." The root directory of the Duchess from 1617 is preserved in the Wolfenbüttel library.
