Dorotheus of Sidon

Dorotheus of Sidon was a Greek astronomer and astrologer who lived in the first century AD and an astrological poem written in five books. David Pingree dated the horoscopes contained therein to the time around 50 AD As a result, they were translated in the third century AD in the Middle Persian and Arabic language. The works of Dorotheus of Sidon form a first ordered summary of the Hellenistic sources in astrology, which in turn supplement were based on writings of Petosiris, the Hermetica and Zoroastrianism.

The extensive work had a great influence on the ancient and medieval astrology. The Arabic translation includes Persian and Sanskrit terms that occupy the editorial revision and supplement from the Middle Persian and Sassanian templates.

Viktor Stegemann was in the 20th century, only the first 57 of the extensive fragments are preserved translate.
