Dorothy Catherine of Brandenburg-Ansbach

Dorothea Catherine of Brandenburg -Ansbach (* February 23, 1538 in Ansbach, † January 18, 1604 in Toužim ) was a Princess of Brandenburg -Ansbach and by marriage Viscountess of Meissen.

Life

Dorothea Catherine was a daughter of the Margrave George of Brandenburg -Ansbach (1484-1543) from his third wife, Aemilia (1516-1591), daughter of Duke Henry of Saxony.

They married on February 2, 1556 in Gera Henry V of Plauen, Viscount of Meissen ( 1533-1568 ). The Marriage of financially troubled Viscount was celebrated with completely inappropriate splendor; there were 1,500 persons charged with 970 horses, 250 of nobles and Henry crashed into considerable debt, which caused him a few weeks later with the Elector Augustus of Saxony on 13 March to conclude the contract of Annaberg, which ushered in the loss of the Vogtland.

From their marriage Katharina Dorothea had four sons named Henry, born 1557-1567, but all had died back in childhood. Dorothea Katharina was buried in 1607 (three years after her death ), at the instigation of her cousins , Elector Christian II, in St. John's Church in Plauen. Her husband, Henry V, however, lies buried in the mountain church in Schleiz.
