DOS Protected Mode Services

DOS Protected Mode Services ( abbreviated DPMS) is a set of services of DOS memory manager about the slightly modified DOS device drivers, TSRs, and applications can either be as usual in conventional memory running or shifted into extended memory and in 16- bit or 32 -bit protected mode, there can be performed. For communication with the conventional DOS environment remains a small part of the program code in real mode address space.

History and Use

Originally developed by Novell for Novell DOS 7, DPMS is also supported in later systems such as Caldera DR- DOS 7.0x and of drivers and services as DELWATCH, NWCACHE, NWCDEX, the PNW SERVER as well as some editions of DRFAT32, LONG NAME, and DEBUG.

DPMS is also found in IBM PC DOS 7.0 and higher, and at various third-party programs such as Stacs Stacker, some PCMCIA driver stacks and DIVA CAPI drivers. Compatible with other doses and Windows 9x 3.x/Windows, it is also supported by Helix CLOAKING and Logitech mouse drivers.
