The Dosse is a right tributary of the Havel. It is 96 km long and has a catchment area of ​​1268 km ². On Dosse run settled the Slavic Dossanen ( Doxani, Doxanen, Dasseri, Desseri ). The name Dosse is due to this strain.

Course

The Dosse rises in the border region of Mecklenburg -Vorpommern and Brandenburg countryside on a plateau on the northern edge of the Prignitz, about three kilometers northeast of Meyenburg. This plateau is between Wendisch Priborn and Meyenburg. Not far from the source Dosse are the headwaters of the Elde and Stepenitz. In this area arise from other small streams that flow into the Dosse after every four kilometer run length. From there, the Dosse flows in a southerly direction over Wittstock / Dosse and Wusterhausen / Dosse by Dosse lowlands to Neustadt (Dosse ), thereafter to recoil to the west. About five kilometers north of the lake Gülper, they do not flow through the Dosse opens in Vehlgast - Kümmernitz into the Havel.

Use

From the year 1850, the river from the village Dosse was removed to flößbar and Hohenofen, about 18 kilometers from the Havel, anytime navigable for smaller vehicles. A Marine leader from 1940 called moderate navigable to Rübehorst. In its lower reaches the Dosse is up to the bridge at Rübehorst still passable. Its catchment area is located on a tributary of the Dosse memory Kyritz.
