Dotnuva

Dotnuva ( German: Dotnau ) is a town with 775 inhabitants in rayon Kėdainiai in Lithuania, next to the state road 144 Kėdainiai - Šiauliai is located about ten kilometers northwest of Kėdainiai. It is the center of the joint management Dotnuva.

At the southeastern outskirts of the village there is a notable Catholic church (built in 1810) as a landmark. In the village is a monastery, the post office (LT- 58057 ) and a library. About Dotnuva flows the Dotnuvėlė, it is dammed on the eastern outskirts in a pond.

History

Documented, the town was first mentioned in the 14th century. Since 1372 it was the center of a municipality ( valsčius ) and since 1582 it is a small town. 1382 you mentioned it in Latin writings as Datinen later than Dotnava. The estate Dotnuva was founded in the 14th century and built in 1636 the first wooden church, and in 1702 the St. Bernard Monastery. 1637 Dotnuva became a city. In the years 1773-1810 the present Catholic Church was built. The right to the weekly market and four years markets got Dotnuva 1777 by Stanislovas Augustas. 1924, the Agricultural Academy (now LŽŪU ) built Dotnuva.
