Two lines mackerel ( Grammatorcynus bilineatus )

The two lines mackerel ( Grammatorcynus bilineatus ) is up to 1 meter long and 3.5 -pound predator. The fish is often confused with the second species of the genus, Grammatorcynus bicarinatus.

Features

The mouth is the two lines mackerel is relatively small, the oral fissure extends only to the middle of the eye. A swim bladder is present. It has its German name from the second side line at right angles branches behind the pectoral fins of the first.

Dissemination and lifestyle

The two lines mackerel lives in the open water via exterior reefs in the Indian Ocean from the Red Sea to the Andaman Sea and the Western Pacific to the Ryukyu Islands, the north coast of Australia, the Marshall Islands and Fiji.

They hunt in large flocks on the steep outer reef by crustaceans and herring -like schooling fishes such as Sardinella and Thrissocles.
